From Our Shop to Your Site: The Real Process Behind Every Keen Signs Install
Most people never think about a sign until it needs to change. Then they notice it everywhere. At Keen Signs and Graphics, we design and fabricate thousands of signs a year, but the part our clients ask about least is often the part that matters most: the installation. Getting a sign from our shop floor to your wall is equal parts logistics, engineering, and choreography. Here is how the typical process goes.
STEP ONE: THE SITE SURVEY
Before anything is decided, we walk the site. We check wall composition, measure sightlines, note electrical access, and look for surprises: buried utilities, HOA restrictions, or that one tree branch that grew six inches since last season and now blocks the view from the road. A good site survey prevents a bad install day.
STEP TWO: PERMITTING AND COMPLIANCE
Augusta, Aiken, Columbia County, and every municipality in between has its own sign code. We handle the permitting so our clients do not have to decode setback rules or wind-load calculations. This step can take a few days or a few weeks depending on the jurisdiction, which is why we always recommend starting early.
STEP THREE: FABRICATION
While permits move through the system, your sign is being built. Depending on the project, that might mean routing dimensional letters, printing vinyl graphics, welding a monument frame, or programming an LED controller. Production is done in our local shop on Broad Street.
STEP FOUR: THE INSTALL
This is where our crew earns their coffee. Our installers have hung signs in medical campuses before dawn, on rooftops at noon, and in parking garages where the only light is what they bring with them. They work with boom lifts, concrete anchors, precision levels, and an almost supernatural tolerance for Georgia humidity. Every install follows the same checklist: mark, drill, anchor, mount, level, clean. But every site teaches you something new.
WHY THIS MATTERS FOR YOUR TIMELINE
Fall is actually one of the best seasons to install signage. The weather is cooperative, holiday crowds have not arrived yet, and getting your sign up now means you are fully visible before the year-end rush.
If you are thinking about a refresh for 2027, the time to start the conversation is now.
